PORTRAITS | Summer Maternity Session in Lynchburg, VA

Emily is another client that I’ve known personally for a long time!  I’ve photographed just about everybody in her family over the past five to six years! For me, capturing the same client or family’s milestones over a period of time is one of the greatest joys of being a photographer!  In front of my camera lens, Emily has celebrated the milestones of being a high school senior, a bride, and now a mom-to-be!

Emily was such a trooper during our session!  It was already a hot and humid summer day and only made more grueling by the fact that she was 39 weeks pregnant at the time!  I know what I felt like as my due date approached in March and boy was I glad that I wasn’t due in the summertime!

Can’t wait to photograph their little newborn when she arrives!

SENIORS | Victoria, Brookville High School Class of 2018

My husband and I are the youth pastors at our church and have been blessed to watch Victoria grow into an awesome young woman!  We’ve known her since middle school and seeing her start her first semester of college is surreal!  With my being pregnant the majority of last year and having my first son this past March, it was a little bit difficult to schedule her session.  So, we finally met a week or two ago for her senior portrait session!

Victoria wanted to head downtown for her senior portrait session and so we did!  We started down on Commerce Street outside of Interiors by Moyanne’s studio.  The charming columns and portico facade, gray painted brick, and blush pink door was the perfect backdrop for her first outfit!  Our second stop was the Bluffwalk for her cap and gown images!  The Allied Arts building on Church Street has become a favorite location for my sessions lately!  I love the smooth teal colored marble and the concrete steps!   After the sun had set, we headed back down to the main street parking garage for a few night time photos with some edge!  I hadn’t brought a flash with me for this session so I did a little on-the-spot lighting with my camera flashlight!  Sometimes the best images are the ones you create with quick thinking!

Victoria has wanted to be a teacher as long as I’ve known her and she explored that role this past year through assisting in a local classroom!  She loved it and will be completing her education degree through the University of Lynchburg!  This year she’ll be joining our college group at church and I’m looking forward to walking alongside with her for the next four years!

Congratulations Victoria!

Happy Father’s Day

In honor of Father’s Day yesterday, I wanted to share some of my favorite father daughter moments from some of my Jae Studios brides and their dads as well as several weddings I’ve assisted on over the past three years!  Each dad is different –  some dads’ shed tears, others absorb the day quietly, and still others offer support and laughter as they enjoy your wedding day with you!  Most dad’s do all of the above and more!

The moment when the bride’s dad sees her for the first time in her wedding dress is a special moment!  It’s usually when dads’ realize it’s their little girl’s WEDDING day!!

Wednesday Trends Day – Senior Style Series

June 4, 2015 BlogHey Seniors!

Graduation is finally (or almost) over and summer vacation has begun which means Class of 2016 your SENIOR YEAR will start before you know it!  Time to start thinking about your senior portraits!

I want your senior session images to be modern, fun, totally awesome, and totally YOU!!

Fashion lets you express who YOU are -whether your style is urban, glam, casual, country, hipster, or your own personal category!  So don’t make your senior style choices an afterthought!  I’m here to guide you on selecting your session outfits without putting a giant 2015 TIME STAMP on your senior portrait images!  I know what looks best in portraits and how to mix classic styles with current trends so that your senior imagery doesn’t end up on Awkward Family Photos one day in the future.  I’m pretty sure no one wants that . . . .

Lynchburg Senior Portrait Photographer, Liberty University Class of 2015, LU College Senior with a hood on, portrait with off camera flash taken outdoors in Riverside Park Lynchburg Virginia

So each Wednesday, I’ll be sharing on the blog about a current style trend and how you can incorporate that trend into your senior session (and your #ootd too of course!)!  These style tips will help you with how you can take these trends, make them your own, and do so on a variety of budgets!  I’ll be sharing inspiration from the runways and designers but also fashion and accessories found in the Lynchburg area at the two local boutiques – Salvaged and Gladiola Girls that partner with Jae Studios!

I’ll be using the hashtag #wednesdaytrendsday on Instagram weekly with each new post!  I’d love to see how you are making each trend your own!  So hashtag #wednesdaytrendsday and tag @jaestudiosseniors with a picture of your style and you might get reposted to the Jae Studios Seniors Instagram (@jaestudiosseniors) feed!

So stay tuned for the first trend coming next week!  Feel free to comment with the trend suggestions  or senior session style questions you have too!

ENGAGEMENTS | Patrick & Rebecca – a rustic fall Lynchburg session at the lakeside

April 22, 2015 Blog

I’m super excited to share this sweet engagement session on the blog!  Patrick and Rebecca are absolutely adorable together and I had so much fun at their session last fall!  We met at Ivy Creek Park here in Lynchburg, VA (quickly becoming one of my favorite places to shoot!) for the rustic lakeside backdrop and fall foliage!  I will photograph Patrick and Rebecca’s wedding in just a few short weeks at the Trivium Estate here in Forest, Virginia.

I want to come aside my couples in telling their love story!  Starting with my 2015 wedding season, I will be including their stories in THEIR words – sharing about how they met, how the proposal went, what they love about each other, how they made decisions for their wedding day, just to name a few! So read on to find out more about this sweet couple!

Lynchburg Engagement Patrick and Rebecca. Patrick and Rebecca in a rustic session with fall colors and red plaid.

How did you meet and how long have you dated?

We met through mutual friends (his roommates) in August 2012 and have been dating for a little over two years.

Lynchburg Engagement Patrick and Rebecca. Strolling through the woods and looking at nature.

Where was your first date? What did you do?

Our first date was on February 16, 2013. After going to a hockey game together on a Saturday night with some friends, he and I then went out to dinner together at Macado’s. A few days later, he called my dad to ask for his blessing and we “officially” started dating.

Lynchburg Engagement Patrick and Rebecca. Holding on to each other and gazing into each other's eyes.

How did he propose?

In June 2014, Patrick and I took a road trip up to northern Wisconsin to spend vacation with his family. They had rented a lake house for a week on Little Saint Germain Lake. On the afternoon of the last day that we were staying at the lake, he asked if I wanted to go out on the boat. He then rowed us out to a little secluded island in the middle of the lake. Just a minute or two after we got out of the boat he got down on one knee and popped the question! About a half hour later, we went back to the house and surprised his family with the news!

Lynchburg Engagement Patrick and Rebecca. Kissing on a path in the woods and princess cut diamond ring on white wildflower.

What are your favorite things to do together?

Outdoorsy activities (hiking, etc.), watching movies, cooking, going to sporting events, various games (cards, etc.), hanging out with friends, going on walks.

Lynchburg Engagement Patrick and Rebecca. Sitting in the fallen leaves and walking through the fall scenery holding hands.

Any funny stories about yourselves?

On the way up to the lake in Wisconsin where we got engaged, we decided that it would be a good idea to drive instead of fly to save money. To save time, we also decided that we would make the trip without stopping other than quick gas and food stops. By the time we got there we had been in the car for 24 hours straight and by the time we finally went to bed, we had been awake for 40 hours. You could say we were getting pretty delusional at that point!

Lynchburg Engagement Patrick and Rebecca. Embracing on an aged bridge in the woods.

Lynchburg Engagement Patrick and Rebecca. Standing on either side of the bridge gazing at each other and grasping her close while his hand is in his pocket.

What kind of job do you both have?

I am a writer/editor at a non-profit called International Christian Concern. He is a supervisor at a plastics manufacturer called Tessy Plastics.

Lynchburg Engagement Patrick and Rebecca. Sharing a kiss while sitting on a fence in front of a lake. She is wearing a bold pink cardigan while he is wearing a blue button up shirt.

Do you have everything in common or do you have things that you can’t agree on but poke fun about?

We are pretty similar about most things but joke with each other about different habits all the time.

GROOM: What things do you love the most about her?

Her kindness, compassion and how she brightens a room whenever she enters. She draws me closer to God and she is a great partner for life.

Lynchburg Engagement Patrick and Rebecca. Lying in the yellow and brown leaves while they exchanged a kiss and snuggled close to each other.

BRIDE: What things do you love the most about him?

I love that he constantly inspires me to be a better person. He is one of the most Godly, generous, and kind-hearted men I have ever met, yet he is so humble that he never seeks to take the credit for it. He is incredibly hard working and I know without a doubt that he would do anything to protect and provide for me. He is also so hilarious and always keeps me laughing.

SENIORS | Emily, Brookville Class of 2014

April 22, 2015 Blog

Here’s Emily – just like I promised!  I met Emily when we started attending Forest Community Church a couple of years ago.  She is a 2014 graduate from Brookville High School here in the Lynchburg area.  We had a really fantastic session shooting in both downtown Lynchburg and at Old City Cemetery.  She even brought her cap and gown for a few images too!  This beautiful girl has a sweet smile and an awesome laugh – we captured both during her late summer session!
