ENGAGEMENTS | Patrick & Rebecca – a rustic fall Lynchburg session at the lakeside

I’m super excited to share this sweet engagement session on the blog!  Patrick and Rebecca are absolutely adorable together and I had so much fun at their session last fall!  We met at Ivy Creek Park here in Lynchburg, VA (quickly becoming one of my favorite places to shoot!) for the rustic lakeside backdrop and fall foliage!  I will photograph Patrick and Rebecca’s wedding in just a few short weeks at the Trivium Estate here in Forest, Virginia.

I want to come aside my couples in telling their love story!  Starting with my 2015 wedding season, I will be including their stories in THEIR words – sharing about how they met, how the proposal went, what they love about each other, how they made decisions for their wedding day, just to name a few! So read on to find out more about this sweet couple!

How did you meet and how long have you dated?

We met through mutual friends (his roommates) in August 2012 and have been dating for a little over two years.

Where was your first date? What did you do?

Our first date was on February 16, 2013. After going to a hockey game together on a Saturday night with some friends, he and I then went out to dinner together at Macado’s. A few days later, he called my dad to ask for his blessing and we “officially” started dating.

How did he propose?

In June 2014, Patrick and I took a road trip up to northern Wisconsin to spend vacation with his family. They had rented a lake house for a week on Little Saint Germain Lake. On the afternoon of the last day that we were staying at the lake, he asked if I wanted to go out on the boat. He then rowed us out to a little secluded island in the middle of the lake. Just a minute or two after we got out of the boat he got down on one knee and popped the question! About a half hour later, we went back to the house and surprised his family with the news!

What are your favorite things to do together?

Outdoorsy activities (hiking, etc.), watching movies, cooking, going to sporting events, various games (cards, etc.), hanging out with friends, going on walks.

Any funny stories about yourselves?

On the way up to the lake in Wisconsin where we got engaged, we decided that it would be a good idea to drive instead of fly to save money. To save time, we also decided that we would make the trip without stopping other than quick gas and food stops. By the time we got there we had been in the car for 24 hours straight and by the time we finally went to bed, we had been awake for 40 hours. You could say we were getting pretty delusional at that point!

What kind of job do you both have?

I am a writer/editor at a non-profit called International Christian Concern. He is a supervisor at a plastics manufacturer called Tessy Plastics.

Do you have everything in common or do you have things that you can’t agree on but poke fun about?

We are pretty similar about most things but joke with each other about different habits all the time.

GROOM: What things do you love the most about her?

Her kindness, compassion and how she brightens a room whenever she enters. She draws me closer to God and she is a great partner for life.

BRIDE: What things do you love the most about him?

I love that he constantly inspires me to be a better person. He is one of the most Godly, generous, and kind-hearted men I have ever met, yet he is so humble that he never seeks to take the credit for it. He is incredibly hard working and I know without a doubt that he would do anything to protect and provide for me. He is also so hilarious and always keeps me laughing.
